Our colleagues in this industry haven’t canceled us when we have made mistakes. We listen when we fall short and don’t try to bury it or explain it away. The most outspoken voices in this industry do not take pleasure in others fucking up. They want us to always do better.
Inevitably we will fall short again because we will never fully understand the nuances and needs of all marginalized communities. The beautiful thing is that it opens up an opportunity for us to always read, have conversations, and learn more about these communities.
Criticism is such a gift. It implies care and love and we are forever grateful for those who believe enough in us to not give us a pass. Many of them have become Glitter Cats.
Those folx have given us one of the greatest gifts as humans: humility. We are less defensive and more receptive to how we can better serve our community and love each other. Thank your critics always and pay them if you can.
