All education workers have a responsibility to change the system they are in. Individually, we reflect on our practices and make changes. We read. We learn. We unlearn. I’m loving the messages I have been receiving from @ETFOPeel members asking for more PD, reading lists, 1/
webinars, and supporting our local’s motion to remove SROs from our schools. @ETFOPeel has created a strategic plan to address barriers to equity, received training, added equity lines in our budget, added an equity officer position in the local & continues to look for gaps 2/
that need to be filled to support our teachers who face barriers and support our teachers in creating safe and inclusive classrooms.

@ETFOeducators has a multi-year strategic plan to address anti-Black racism and dismantle it. The plan includes workshops that support IBPOC 3/
members. They have provided mandatory yearly equity training for all staff and the Executive. The union has created amazing equity resources (Black history, Anti-Black Racism, Indigenous education, 2SLGBTQ+, ableism, poverty, sexism) to name a few. Check out @NHenryFundi’s 4/
rich work and teach about Black Canadians 365 days a year! What’s my point? It isn’t that racism doesn’t exists in our union. Of course it does. It exists everywhere in all systems in this country. My point? @ETFOeducators and @ETFOPeel are working to dismantle oppression 5/
fr within & invest on supporting that change in our members. What has #onted done 2 change their system? What $ have they invested? What changes have they made 2 dismantle racism in the gov’t,teacher colleges, curriculum....? Systemic injustices require system changes. #onpoli 6/6
