Good quotes here from @stewartdantec @JemarTisby @trillianewbell @kuteasabutton6 @JevonTerrill.

The books can’t hold all the stories we could tell... https://twitter.com/cnn/status/1281601579741839360
But let me emphasize something to the press:

The tone of these stories needs to shift. Instead of interpreting this as a reaction to White Christians, the narrative needs to de-center Whiteness and instead center the Black Church/Black Christian leadership moving forward
When you profile a handful of courageous leaders, the story is not about what White Christians may or may not do, but rather what these Black Christians have done and are doing to create creative safe, thriving spaces for themselves and others like them.
Write about how Black Christians are reimagining the words of Baldwin, embodying the message of Sojourner Truth, pursuing the mission of King’s Beloved Community despite the heinous treatment we continue to receive. Honor their agency and creativity in the face of bigotry
But these stories makes it seem like we’re holding our breath waiting for an evangelical Christian awakening on race. And...I assure you we are not
Black Christians are fearless, not fearful. We know who we are and “Whose” we are...
