rio is my 2020 mvp this is traditional real lyrical rapping where each bar begins and ends on the 1 and the 4, funny punchlines, thick tough sounding voice so why are the "real hip-hop" heads ignoring
main difference between this and say griselda is that the tempos are much faster and instead of no drums, drum programming makes up like 80% of the beats there's layers of busy hi hats, snares cowbells etc
this whole flint rap sound is an offshoot of the detroit street rap sound which is still going hard and deserves its own mid-year compilation
also worth mentioning how on many songs these rappers pass the mic at random (many times mid-bar) like the best early groups from the 80's everyone is clearly in the same room recording and everyone sounds happy to be there
