Over the past few months, Americans have been shocked to see weapons of war used against peaceful protesters.
On July 20th, the Senate will vote on amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to reform the Department of Defense's 1033 program, which allows for the free transfer of military equipment to local police, without consent from local elected officials.
We MUST show support for the Schatz, Paul, Harris, and Murkowski bipartisan amendment to reform the 1033 program.
This amendment would restrict the free transfer of the most militaristic equipment to law enforcement—including bayonets, grenades, asphyxiating gases, and high-caliber munitions. These restrictions would protect civilians while not preventing police from doing their jobs.
