I am trying to find evidence that Tik Tok is somehow a worse medium than Facebook other than that Gen Z likes it and so its easy to be extra weary of young people rather than your shitty older relatives

Like privacy, censorship, human rights abuses, collaborating with an evil government thats all happening from Facebook: an American company

While we’re here as someone who works on social media professionally (they are all evil) so are nearly *all* major companies. If you want to fry the biggest fish I suggest you take a look at oil companies and realize that modern morality is impossible.

I am not saying we shouldn’t be weary of social media companies, I am a fierce advocate for regulation.

It just bothers me that people choose to be disproportionately precious when it happens to be something mostly young people use, fuck that

I wish we were more alarmed about that on a daily basis.

Again, be weary of it all. Make choices accordingly. It’s not your fault its nearly impossible to not contribute to evil organizations.

But the villinization of TikTok over FB reaks to me of ageism and xenophobia and I’m having a hard time finding evidence that shows otherwise

This is fair, also TikTok is not a necessity in the way that Facebook is to a lot of people.

I set myself up here, let me clarify:

I think both of these companies are extraordinarily evil and we can do several things at once to regulate/hold several companies responsible.

I wonder whether most peoples intentions are truly specific or rather if a knee jerk “young people are dumb/dangerous” reaction that fuels a lot of the public discourse

While I’m here I’ll continue my several year long awareness campaign that Facebook and IG are the same company and they are all data-mining us.

We need regulation. But I want the discourse to be rooted in facts not ageism.
