Cancel culture is actually a never-ending spiral of totalitarian revulsion. "I am disgusted by this, everyone should be disgusted by this, if he is not disgusted by this then I am disgusted by him, everyone should be disgusted by him, if you are not disgusted by him..."
I don't think it's unique to any political persuasion. People of all politics argue like this frequently and have done for ages. Including some of the Harpers signatories. But it leads to extremes, because the moment you stop denouncing, somebody outflanks you and denounces you.
I've certainly argued in this manner, and I have felt morally righteous for doing so. It feels good, and it works. But I think it's a habit to kick.
