Dear immigration reporters: In honor of #followfriday, I want to lift up some badass WOC immigration policy experts. While they bring personal perspectives to the work, they also have serious policy chops and are fierce AF.
First, @manaro_77. She was DD for imm policy at the Obama WH & now works at the ACLU where she fights the targeting & discrimination of Communities of Color. She is an expert in many things, not least of all enf/detention, surveillance/profiling, & Muslim communities. Call her!
Next, @GHuangWA. She has dedicated her life to working at the intersection of gender-based violence and immigration and can tell you more about immigration law, public benefits, and a whole host of other immigration-related issues than almost anyone I know. Talk to her!
Third, @maunica_s. She has practiced in the Rio Grande Valley, been an immigration prof, & worked on the House immigration subcommittee. In addition to being the child of refugees, she has worked on the issue from almost every angle. Know her!
Want more? I got names! It’s really important to listen to & quote our voices *as experts* in your pieces. The national conversation around immigration can't be limited to the expertise of white policy wonks. It must be as diverse as the immigrant community itself.
You can follow @abaran76.
