The public sphere in the 18th c was rich white men. So talking about anything was fine mostly because almost nothing they discussed impacted them. “Are women fully human?” “Do black lives matter?” These were “debated” by white men. 2/4
So not only are these twitter warriors rehashing tired ONLINE debates in name of “discourse”, they’re rehashing tired HISTORICAL debates. They just dorm-lounge deep thoughts nowadays. We don’t teach phrenology in bio anymore... 3/4
Further the public sphere has happily changed & it’s not just white guys. The mytho-Enlightenment people don’t see or don’t want that. They’re shocked by the pushback and say why can’t you protect my right to question your humanity. 4/4
