1 woman said working in the zone meant she could plan better how much she needed to earn without worry of fines & other punishments & could consider reporting violence without worrying the police will charge her with prostitution offences-Criminal records bar access to other jobs
But much more is needed in addition to the zone. Once it is established that not arresting women increases safety then why not roll that out over the whole country? The govt. could implement the HAC recommendation to decrim sex worker on the street & in premises to promote safety
Plus austerity cuts and benefit sanctions which have targeted women, and mothers in particular, and caused massive rises in prostitution must be reversed.
