We’ve been #homeschooling three kids and #wfh since March. We know we’re fortunate in MANY ways and have a v caring and supportive school. 1/7
But my god it’s unremitting. With summer hols incoming, no childcare available and an ever-demanding workload, my positivity has all but gone. 2/7
September might hold the promise of open schools but that’s unlikely to include #wraparoundcare, crucial to the survival of many #workingparents. 3/7
So to add to the unremitting nature of the day-to-day there’s extra anxiety thrown in about how to cope with a new and exacting academic year without usual support. 4/7
If I feel this overwhelmed I can’t imagine how those in more challenging circumstances (single parents, parents of children with SEND, those in precarious jobs...) are faring. 5/7
And while we share the schooling and caring at home, I’ve no doubt this period will have particular impacts for my #academiccareerprogression. 6/7
When you already rely on working evenings/weekends to stay afloat, losing the ‘extra’ time can mean sinking. @academicparents 7/7
