So you want to do a Kickstarter (thread)
1/6
Kickstarter is a popular way for indie devs to get an injection of capital to help with later stage development costs. There are, however, a bunch of things you should consider before going down this route!
Kickstarter isn’t a marketing strategy
2/6
Having a game on Kickstarter doesn’t market itself. In fact, doing a KS requires careful planning & prep. Press are often reluctant to cover unfunded campaigns, so you need other ways to draw attention to your game!
How’s your community?
3/6
I could write books on why Community Managers are worth their weight in gold, but I’ll just say: KS campaigns live or die on the strength of their community. How’s yours? Where are they? Discord? Twitter? Reddit? How many would back your KS on day 1?
The crowdfunding page has to be good
4/6
Your KS page should leave people without a doubt that your indie game is worth funding. Kickass trailer, gifs, good layout, compelling writing, enticing rewards. Don’t just throw any old thing in, & def get it proof read before going live.
Remember to stretch
5/6
Make your stretch goals meaningful. KS’s all or nothing funding means you’re better off setting your goal at the lower end, so give people reason to keep backing you after you’re fully funded!
