So I got into producing in eighth grade because one of my friends ran away from home and my parents let him stay at my house. I owned a drum kit and I was ripping up some beats one day and he was like hey you can do this on a computer and I was like no way 1/?
So we stole a copy of acid by Sony and downloaded a bunch of drum samples and for like 3 years I just made drum loops and that is still hands down my favorite thing to do. Like I will spend hours on end just putting drums together with no song. 2/?
And while I love writing music there is no feeling that compares to just writing a drum loop with no intention. Trying to make the hardest ass beat with three samples. Therapeutic really

And after like a year of making drum loops my dad randomly was like hey I bought a synthesizer off this guy in the '80s and I'm going to take it out of storage cuz it's pretty cool (I was too young to realize how cool it actually was but now it's my prized possession) 420/69
So I busted this thing out and literally just tried to recreate sounds I heard in the fabric 37 mix (very unsuccessfully by the way) And it seemed like such a random thing at the time but looking back on it It was one of the most formative periods of my life
So I guess all I'm really trying to say is even if you don't want to get into producing to write songs you should at least try it because having full creative control over something is therapeutic like nothing else
(And I say all this because I've spent a past 3 days writing drum loops And I've had more fun doing it than writing any full song I've in a while) So I guess my final thought on all of this would be if you want to write music stop playing games and do it
All of the tools are so accessible nowadays and I'm not trying to downplay the craft but it's really not that hard. It takes a long time to get good at it but there's never been a moment where I didn't enjoy myself while I wrote music.
