Little thing about my deal with #Hamilton . Yeah I know, I know, musicals aren’t everyone’s bag. That’s fine. Yeah yeah, LMM is a lib. Whatevs. Put all that aside & stick with me for a minute. A big criticism is historical accuracy & this is why that doesn’t really bother me.
Artistic liberties are always taken when putting anything to theater, song, movie, etc. I don’t take major issue with that, but then again, I grew up in & worked in the arts so some of us are more accustomed to it and yeah, a bit biased.
My favorite thing about historical adaptations like this is they somewhat educate people on some level, BUT they also get them interested and before you know it many are researching and swallowing up information on the subject.
My male cousins were 16 when they rode with me to Colorado & we listened to the soundtrack. At first they were pretty apathetic, but a few songs in they were having me pause to ask questions and google things they heard.
THAT is worth everything to my history loving self. They were genuinely engaged, intrigued, and inspired. We could use a hell of a lot more of that, in my opinion.
Watch it, don’t watch it, I’d just ask you not to avoid it just because it’s popular & people tell you to or not to. I just wanted to give a small glimpse of why I appreciate this cultural phenomenon beyond the whole fandom & obvious talent it took to create.
