This thread is an analysis of the recent unconfirmed news regarding @flyspicejet (SG) wet leasing, for a short period, an #A330 from @omanair (WY) and to decipher why this may or may not happen.
SG is a low cost carrier with a fleet of #B737 and Dash-8 aircraft

WY operates 2 variants of the #A330 i.e. the -200 and the -300.
The -200's are configured 30J/196Y
The -300's come in two configurations:
6F/20J/204Y and 24J/265Y.
Considering SG is a LCC and WY a FSC, there is complete product mismatch. SG has rather unsuccessfully

offered a Business Class product on the Ex-9W #B737 aircraft called SpiceBiz in the recent past.
These aircraft were taken on lease to avail slots from the 9W portfolio and SpiceBiz was withdrawn shortly after when these aircraft were re-configured to an all Y cabin

@AirAsia X operates the #A330 for low cost long haul operations. Their A330-300's are configured with 12 sleeper seats and 365Y seats in a 3-3-3 low cost configuration which is not standard on the A330.
WY's A330's in comparison are configured to a FSC's standard

For an LCC to lease an #A330 from a FSC is a disaster waiting to happen unless
1) SG know something which we don't i.e. that international operations won't resume for the foreseeable future and they can use the aircraft for charter flights; or
2) they are guaranteed business
5-
by someone who might avail their services for charters; or
3) SG think they can make money using the aircraft on a scheduled international service, subject to india opening it's borders as they would undoubtedly secure the wet lease at rock bottom prices

London comes to mind. SG does not have slots @HeathrowAirport. Going to Gatwick with WY's aircraft makes no sense as they have premium seats which fill up profitably out of LHR. SG might be able to avail ad-hoc slots due to the current #COVIDー19 situation at LHR however
7-
A pandemic hit LCC with poor cash flow and a weak balance sheet, operating flights with a widebody aircraft configured with premium seats during a pandemic makes no sense.
Finally, wetleasing an #A330 might be a ploy to divert attention from the airlines poor finances.
