UNPOPULAR OPINION THREAD:

Money Twitter has many younger ppl starting businesses, which is cool. But, there’s a poisonous rhetoric flowing out that I feel I need to address.

That ‘9-5’ is a form of slavery.

Thats total bullshit, and here’s why...
I’ve owned several businesses in my life. As a former Founder, CEO & President of my own corporation that I built from nothing, and ran for 8 years, I have great perspective on this rhetoric.

I’ve also had a successful 20yr sales career, and currently earn 6 figures+ in sales.
When running a business, you work 90-100 hour weeks, starting out with a zero salary or profit.

You’re spending money to work. 365 days a year with no holiday, paycheck, benefits, 401K, no time off, responsible for EVERYTHING.

Your business owns you.
Add to that, that the vast majority of businesses fail within the first 2 years, and most never become profitable or make back the investment.

If any debts happen, you are personally responsible for them.

Remember, I’ve been there, done this, and been very successful.
Compare the above to a 9-5.

You get paid from day one, most have benefits, time off (paid or not), weekends and holidays off, usually around 40 hours per week, covered by many insurances, zero responsibilities other than your specified work.

You go home and forget about it.
I’ve had success in business, and my sales career.

I can tell you business was always more fun, even in hardest times.

BUT, a business owner is more enslaved than ANY 9-5 worker.

AND, making money in business is a LOT HARDER than working a job.
If you’re just starting out, you’re young, and you think that a business is liberating, and freedom in comparison to a job, you ARE mistaken.

You probably won’t make more money, either.

It’s a lifestyle choice, but a much harder one.

AND... ...one more thing...
Statistically, more millionaires are made by employees, than employers.

Both have their places, both have their benefits. Working both can have MASSIVE BENEFITS.

Beware of romanticizing business, and don’t believe the bullshit you’re being sold.

You’re just drinking kool-aid.
I wish you the best in any endeavor, business or job.

This thread is my hope of offering perspective, welcoming you to the business world.

Don’t disrespect jobs, if your business ever fails, you’re ever out of money, and in debt, you’ll need one. They are opportunities, too.
