Re: the whole veth thing tonight. I’m going to bed so I won’t see the rest of the episode, but I have some thoughts
Early on, jester CONSTANTLY flirted with fjord. They’ve even kissed. And jester hasn’t shown any obvious interest in anyone else like she did with fjord. And I think veth is the type to feel that people have “roles” to fill
We’ve seen her constantly struggle with her own desires vs the role of the perfect mother that she feels she has to be, even if that’s not what makes her happy. She’s said that Yeza was her first partner, and she stuck with him, because that’s what you’re “supposed” to do
She obviously still loves and is attracted to yeza, but she’s also openly expressed attraction to other men, just treating it as a “fantasy” or a silly day dream-which is what she assumed beau’s feelings towards jester to be.
And I think that she also saw beaus obvious interest in yasha early on, and her continued interest tbh, and assumed it was a similar thing. As chaotic as she is, when it comes to relationships, she’s very methodical
She puts people in categories, almost. For a while it was Caleb as someone she needed to protect, though that has evolved somewhat into someone she needs to *support*
She’s dealing with so much internally, even if she makes jokes about it(see, “I’m an alcoholic” in tonight’s episode) that she can’t really put aside the brain space to process the complex and evolving feelings people have towards each other.
She wants to support her friends and her new chosen family, but she is occasionally misguided. I personally definitely see, at the very least, someone who grew up very sheltered, with a very strict set of social norms, that she still feels an obligation to adhere to
I personally see veth as being somewhere on the autistic spectrum/having adhd, and all of these things can be part of that. I know I have these same issues sometimes. When your own internal feelings are so complicated, you assign roles mentally to those around you
So that you can process what’s happening internally. I’ve done this, many times. I don’t think she’s homophobic, though I understand the jokes as reactions. She wants everyone to split off into happy little pairs and have a happy ending, because that’s what’s *supposed* to happen
She’s not ready yet to fully comprehend the complexities of the relationships around her because she is still processing her relationship with herself, especially after her transformation
I think people see her transformation as the “end” of her arc, but that was only external. She’s got *years* of self hatred and denial and trauma to work out internally, too.
She also doesn’t want to be a burden on anyone. She got her one thing she asked for; she may not fee she has any right to put the heaviness of her internal conflict on anyone else.
I also think that a big part of her and Caleb having such a strong connection is that they are both neurodivergent in extremely similar ways, and Caleb is STILL the only one she truly confides in.
It’s also possible she’s seen how Caleb looks at Jester and is scared that may mess up their friendship, and wants to encourage jester to pursue someone else, to try to have that not happen(as fucked up as it is; it’s a very realistic response to abandonment issues)
And she DEFINITELY has abandonment issues. And from that perspective, in order to prevent that, fjord is the most obvious option.
I get, as an lgbtq+ person, as a beaujes shipper, I GET the frustration at veth pushing fjord onto jester. I get it, and I feel it too. But people don’t allow veth the same depth that they allow other party members, even though she’s one of the most complex there.
I just. I have a lot of feelings about veth. They’re very complex. But I find her very relatable. That struggle between who you were raised to be and who you feel you truly are? Remember when people kept comparing her arc to being trans? It’s STILL SIMILAR
You’re allowed to be upset, frustrated, etc, don’t get me wrong. But please don’t write her off.
