Kid Fury had the best analysis of this cancel culture bs. It should be shared widely because he really hit the nail on the head
Heavily paraphrasing and sprinkling my own words in, he basically said “cancel” is just a cool word black people used in place of saying this person’s rhetoric or behavior was harmful, I’m not supporting them anymore...
White people who be listening to us “talk” on here, started using it widely and certain types of wp (likely knowing where the phrase originated) decided they didn’t like marginalized people asserting their humanity in this (or, let’s be honest, any) way...
A human being can’t truly be canceled or silenced, that’s not what it ever meant. You have a right to do and say what you want and other people have a right to disagree. Also, being held accountable for being racist, misogynistic, homophobic, transphobic, etc. is a good thing
Often they’re not even held accountable anyway, they don’t usually lose anything, their money, access, power stays perfectly intact. They simply get pushback online and, at worst, lose some supporters for being an asshole.
People have a right to support or not support things based on the seller’s beliefs or behavior. This is a no-brainer TF. And if people would stop trying so hard to hijack AAVE and Black slang without even understanding what it means, this wouldn’t even be a thing. Leave us alone.
