Telling
Everyone
Your
Goals.
A thread.
We're back.
You tell your buddies a goal.
I'll use one that my friend @ImprovementGeek
Recently crushed.
You want to wean yourself off coffee completely.
And you want to do it by next Friday.
Everyone's proud of you.
Doesn't that feel great?

What you've just done is given yourself a dopamine hit
of satisfaction
Without ACTUALLY accomplishing it.
This actually makes you LESS likely
To stop drinking that coffee in the future.
Now, you might be thinking:
"But if I tell everyone, I WILL hold myself accountable!"
Overrated, bullshit advice.
I'm not here to sugarcoat it.
Nor am I going to sugarcoat your coffee.
We're trying to quit that in this example, right?

That said, it IS true that accountability does go a long way
So by this logic, accountability buddies are GREAT
Or consult people who have actually gone through
What you're aiming to accomplish
Like a mentor, or something like that.
Do you see the difference?

Instead of boasting your deadlines/goals to everyone
(And, realistically, 95% of them will forget you ever did...)
You're focusing on the people that can HELP YOU
Get THIS THING DONE.

You're focusing on the people that can HELP YOU

Your mindset can then be focused on...
- Attacking your goals
- Asking the right questions
- Remaining accountable to that small number of people
But that's the "boring" part, right?
...What if I told you there's another benefit?

If you suddenly come out of nowhere
With a new accomplishment on your wall
People will respect that WAY MORE.
It'll be a surprise to them, and you can show it off.
THAT'S when the dopamine rush is earned.
Because you got your shit done.
And now you can bask in it.

Listen, people like people.
But they don't like people that depend on other people
All the time.
Proving you're able to rough it solo, or with a small pack
Instantly elevates others' perspective of you.
If you could do this alone...
Why wouldn't they want you on their team?

Don't rely on external validation and motivation.
It is a huge mistake.
Instead, focus on goals because you have a fire.
An INSTRINSTIC motivation to do so.
Those are the goals that end up being sought through.
Plus, it helps you live authentically.
Huge Twitter "buzzword."
