You know, this whole "cancel culture" backlash (in which many presumably liberal writers happily adopted a right-wing talking point) reminds me of how a few years ago, certain men complained to me about how "you can't speak freely any longer" after the #MeToo movement erupted.
The key phrase I remember very distinctly then was "in this climate" (as in: "in this climate, you have to be careful what you say"), implying that women asking not to be demeaned and/or harassed was just a fad.
You clearly see echoes of that in the "cancel culture" backlash, where people typically argue that somehow, the left is prohibiting from people saying what they might want to say, but this might be just a passing fad. This is telling.
It's telling because those complaining about "cancel culture" clearly think they can go back to the "good-old days", where they'd get their privilege of not getting challenged back, while all the rest get back in line.
I obviously don't expect anything better from the likes of Fox News, but to see this stuff peddled in @Harpers and @TheAtlantic is really depressing.
