Insurrection Survival

Digital Defense

The battlefield is more than just the streets. Today we will talk about how to protect ya neck, online. Some of the answers here are deeply unpalatable, but they must be considered.

@defendpdx for distribution
First and foremost, delete your facebook.

Yeah, I know. I don't want to hear it. Your family has your phone number. Anyone you want to talk to you, give your number to them.

Delete.

Your.

Facebook.

It is the #1 intelligence gathering asset against you.
Take a lesson from the fascists that keep getting rolled up and exposed. Facebook is the primary vector for that work.

Delete it.

You can start one fresh, but mind the privacy settings. Do NOT post publicly. Keep everything locked down tight.
Facebook's whole purpose is to exploit your identity. They have shown how little they give a fuck about your privacy over and over. Your identity is precious in the age of insurrection. You have to start guarding it.
Start using Signal. Some weaknesses have been identified recently, but until a replacement is found, it's the best we have.

Don't @ me with Telegram. They store EVERYTHING. I loaded up a fresh burner a month ago and installed telegram. Wanna guess what happened?
The previous owner of that burner number's account auto populated and I had access to his ENTIRE LIFE. All of his messages, pictures, contacts, stored passwords and history.

FUCK TELEGRAM.

I will say it again.

FUCK TELEGRAM.

Whatsapp is facebook. What did we learn? Fuck FB
Use a VPN.

All of the time. It does no good if you just turn it on when you need it. Confuse the channel with your grocery shopping and your porn habits. If you just turn it on when you need to protect something, that gives a side channel to make people pay attention.
Just like when the police scanner radios switch the encrypted and we know something ugly is about to go down. Same concept.

NordVPN has been breached, but it is cheap.

Protonmail has a VPN they offer.

Private Internet Access has a good one.

Do your research. Get one.
2FA

Two factor authentication is a must in the digital age. Use it everywhere. Ten seconds of punching in a 6 digit code is a pain in the ass, but it is way less of a pain in the ass of recovering your life after a breach.

I recommend Authy, but as with everything, do research.
Get and use a password manager.

That one password you use for everything? its been breached. It can then be used as a zipper to run back everything you have ever done online. Literally everything, clear back to your AOL account from 1997.

Dont fuck around with this.
Lastpass is okay, but reportedly has problems.

KeePass is more technical, but stronger.

The chorus to this song is "Do your research." I can point you in the right directions, but I don't have all the answers.
Setup a "main" recovery email.

Use a recovery email that never touches the internet other than to do recoveries. Something like [email protected] or whatever

Use it as a firewall against losing control. Never use it to sign up or register for anything
It should only ever touch the internet to be used as a backup/recovery account for your everyday use emails.

This way, only you will be able to recover from intrusion and breached account.

You WILL get breached at some point. Nothing is 100% secure.
Lie.

Lie often, frequently and maliciously to confuse computer systems. Anything that asks for biographical data? Bullshit it. Twitter asks for a birthday? Oh, yeah, I was totally born Jan 1, 1975.

Anywhere it doesn't matter, LIE.
Cashapp

It is a giant sloppy messy bitch, but it collects the least amount of info on you and isn't resistant to you changing your identity whenever you want.

Paypal and Venmo will expose your real name attached to your payments, if pressed hard enough.
This is the big one you are all going to hate. So, take a deep breath, blow it out slowly and hang on.
Ego Suicide.

You must be prepared to burn your digital presence to the ground at a moments notice. In fact, you should probably do it now and start over. It is really the only way to be sure you are starting from a secure base.

Its painful, but it must be done.
You cannot hang on for all of those delicious likes, shares, retweets and followers that have been engineered to hammer on the pleasure feedback loops of your brain.

You cannot hang on for your digital friends.

You cannot hang on for that fame or clout.
You have to be willing and able to torch it at a moments notice and run for the digital hills.

Your identity is not the bullshit on all of these digital platforms. Your Self is not the likes, subscribes, and positive feedback from adoring fans.
You are a beautiful Comrade in the struggle and I want to keep you that way.

Sometimes you have to fade back into the bloc and let anonymity protect you for a bit.

Digital presence and Brand can be rebuilt.

You cannot. Protect You.
This concludes today's edition of Insurrection Survival.

As always, I am open to comments, questions, suggestions, revisions additions.

This isn't holy gospel, this is a starter primer on where to begin.

I put my veggies in the pot. You throw in your chicken, everyone eats.
Addendum:

Be super careful with Discord. I know it is the flavour of the year, but be wary about what you put into it.

They are worse than google about saving and harvesting data to bundle and sell to advertisers.

You are the product they are exploiting with the free service
You can follow @OccupiedSeattle.
