It always bothers me when people read historical novels and are like "this person sounds too modern!"
What the fuck do you want me to do, write in Middle English? Because I can.

I would not enjoy it and it would DEFINITELY not sell (except to like...the handful of medieval studies people I know personally), but I could do it.
I am just WAITING till I publish my queer medieval novella and someone inevitably emails me telling me all about the ~historical inaccuracies~, not knowing that I busted my ass for seven years studying the Middle Ages.
I bet someone's going to comment on the sex in that book with "the Church condemned premarital sex!"
They also condemned sex on Wednesdays but I don't see anyone bringing up that rule.

"They didn't allow trans people!"
They didn't allow people to have sex naked either but like...how are they gonna police either of those things.

I was just talking to my sister about medieval trans people and like...theoretically, you can show up in a new town and be like "yo, my name's Ben" and everyone will be like "hey Ben, grab a shovel."
People were suspicious of outsiders (travel was v dangerous), but as long as you act Christian enough, you'd probably be fine.
