yes, i believe wrestlers should be taken off pedestals. 100%. treating them as something bigger than “just people” has led to a lot of problems.
but this is absurd. if their opinions don’t matter then you can’t bash them for not saying “more” in the same breath. https://twitter.com/jamesie_2015/status/1281251144564686850

ospreay, sure, enough has been said about his ACTUAL ACTIONS at this point to absolutely throw a pall on any innocence he may have had in this situation.
sabre jr, however, hasn’t been an active part of britwres for several years at this point. for this reason, and indeed the fact that he’s just a guy, mean that i don’t personally think he opinion on the matter should hold much weight.
he has not been, is not currently, and likely will continue to not be an active participant in britwres. his words will not change what has happened or what will happen. he doesn’t even go here!
and again. this thread calls chris brookes one of the most online members of britwres but doesn’t take into account that he no longer lives or works in britain. in addition to that... he HAS spoken up, through his promotion and his personal account.
how he feels, what he did about situations he knew about, and what his promotion (that has had all of 8 shows and probably a total of 500 individual fans in attendance) will do going forward (if/when it does) are all topics that he’s already covered.
he and the other members of schadenfreude then used their platform to amplify victim’s voices, who are really the people whose words and opinions i have cared to hear about in this situation. what more do i want him to say? honestly i don’t care.
like this insane paradox of no statement being good enough but there always needing to be more, it just has to stop. i don’t give a shit what fans think or wrestlers think or what whoever thinks. i want to know what is going to be done. so they don’t know? cool. then stay quiet.
ABUSERS are at fault for abuse. it is a complete waste of time for people who did not commit abuse and who were not knowingly compliant to turn on each other and start attacking people for not knowing what to do or say.
on that point i’d like to echo others in saying that the solution to this nightmare will not come from WITHIN wrestling. we need trained, experienced, unbiased third-party help, from people with no interest in climbing rank in the industry.
wrestlers and fans alike have no idea what the solution is in this situation regardless of what good ideas they think they might have. safeguarding can’t be done if no one knows what to look for or what to do if a situation arises.
as i near the end of this rant i beg you to ask yourself what you get out of attacking people like zack sabre jr or chris brookes for not saying more and what they could possibly, realistically do to make it “better” in your mind. i’m certain the answer to both is “nothing.”
i’m happy to argue any point here, i’ve invited that. maybe you’ll dismiss this because you know i’m a fan of brookes. but honestly. ask yourself what exactly a reaction tweet matters in all of this. tweeting isn’t always action, and not tweeting isn’t necessarily inaction.
