I feel like ppl who condemn Ursa are willfully ignorant to the more uncomfortable implications of her and Ozai’s “relationship.” She’s just as much of a victim as Zuko and Azula. Considering her circumstances it’s no wonder she was unable to be the “perfect mother”

Zuko and Azula were almost certainly conceived from rape, and Ursa spent every day wearing herself to the bone defending her son specifically bc she knew Ozai would find any excuse to kill him.

She literally wasn’t emotionally able or even permitted to care for both children equally in such a situation. The blame for her children’s abuse is on Ozai, not her.

In The Search she’s shown to attempt to protect BOTH her children at any chance she gets, but Zuko is the one in more immediate danger so he’s usually the one who gets her attention.

She clearly loves Azula but also fears her becoming like Ozai, and is unable to navigate such a dangerous situation in a way that is also considerate of her daughter’s feelings. That’s a really unreasonable thing to demand of a woman in her position.

I’m not diminishing Azula’s trauma either, my point is that both Ursa and her children are survivors, and to place blame on an abuse survivor is rlly fucked up. It’s important to utilize empathy and critical thinking
