The Outdoor Dining webinar with @CityofSanDiego and @BIDAlliance is underway! You can still tune in here: https://bit.ly/webinar070920 @elyse_sd @NatashaCollura
EL: Parking spaces were not included in the executive order because time was needed for safety review. Use of parking IS included in the Interim Urgency Ordinance.
Groups of businesses can come together to create joint outdoor space within protective barriers by including non-protective delineators to indicate with tables belong to each business.
EL: We’re not expecting your barriers to penetrate the ground. It’s actually really important that you don’t drill into the ground unless we have done a review bc there is a lot of infrastructure under the ground. Barriers should not block storm drain gutters or fire lanes.
Applications will have a standard drawing. What we would like you to do is crosshatch in your biz area, mark your 4 ft path of travel and how wide your sidewalk is. Denote your pedestrian plaza, # of parking spaces you’re taking. Remember to not take space on visibility corners.
Want to install some signage to let people know you’re in business for outdoor service? Permits and fees are being waived. Just make sure you’re keeping these bullets in mind.
Question: Would you have to pull equipment used for street closures each night? Special Events: It’s under review and we should have guidance tomorrow!
Question: Are there limits to capacity? Special Events: Capacity can’t be more than what has originally been approved for each location. Capacity can’t be increased. DSD: No communal tables either. Having appropriate spacing requirements & having patrons wear masks is important.
The Q&A for this webinar is helping address some of the nitty gritty questions and details from owners. Q: Are there permits available for non-restaurant businesses? A: Interim Urgency Ordinance includes restaurant and retail. Executive Order only included restaurants.
Q: Can you use parking in front of another business if you have that business’s permission? Can parking go in green, yellow and white curb spots? A: Yes and yes. If you move tables to a blue curb space, that space has to be replaced.
Note from Development Services“Smoking is not allowed in sidewalk cafes currently. We are not changing smoking regulations as a part of this.”
Question: Are there different stipulations for approval of outdoor seating if the parking spots are metered? Answer: No. But if you want the meters removed, you will have to incur those costs. The meters would be turned off and not charged while you have seating included there.
