Hello,
Welcome to a transitory space. I won't be on Twitter for more than a year, but you can't get to where you're going without coming from where you are.
I'm a sculptor. I've worked for a few of the top contemporary American artists. I've been the hands in the studio that work the paper, glass, wood, metal, or plastic according to the artist's instruction. Some of it's in museums.
My work is often up to 70% knowledge labor and 30% manual labor. The creative process cycles between the two, but as techniques become more technically involved they're also more knowledge-intensive.
This applies to bronze casting as much as it does to 3D printing, there are naïve ways to do both and there are technical ways to do both.
As everything accelerates in a technical direction I know that parts of my knowledge labor can be augmented if automated. This is known as computer programming.
As a master craftsman I prefer to invest in high quality tools whenever possible. Some things should be hacked together from miscellaneous parts. Tools, ie extensions of your intention, should not be.
Urbit is slowly but surely fulfilling my requirements for a particular good tool: a personal server.
