Yesterday I learned my predecessor, Martin Di Caro, made many young journalists and sources in transportation, feel uncomfortable.
I believe Airey, Chelsea, Oliver-Ash, Kate, Bridget and Jamie. I believe those that haven't spoken publicly. https://twitter.com/ashleydijon/status/1280941644787912705
Listen to their stories.

This is not a one-time mistake. This was one person, then two, then four, then eight, then a dozen sharing similar stories.

As many of them have said, there is a predatory power dynamic at play here.

WAMU gave him power. He abused it. It is wrong.
I confirmed he also harassed a WMATA spokesperson in 2014. He sent unsolicited, unwanted and inappropriate messages to many in the industry. They have told me first hand.

I thank them for speaking up. I am sorry for what they dealt with. No one should have to.
The whisper network in urbanism, transportation and journalism protected them. Not WAMU.

This afternoon I spoke to AU HR and WAMU GM JJ Yore and News Director Jeffrey Katz and expressed my disgust that this behavior went on, seemingly unchecked.
They say they took two complaints to the appropriate channels.
Others disagree.

Regardless, it continued to happen.

I told management you can't let these voices go unheard. Management must be held accountable. The system that has failed us in so many ways must be held accountable and fixed.
Di Caro’s employer has suspended him and is investigating the accusations. I hope they do a full and complete investigation
