A mini thread for aspirant writers and why you shouldn't give up. Ready? Here we go...
Your story matters. What you create today may not be what the broadcasters want for now. But that shouldn't make you give up. Each Era or time in society requires a certain story to be told. Look at how long it took for This Is Us to be told. Timing is of the essence.
Films too. Mandela films haven't reached a desired outcome. Nobody is ready to deal with his flaws as a father & a husband/ to risk the truth behind this phenomenal man. As a writer don't get defeated keep researching & writing. This story will one day be told. Timing.
Don't give up. What I didn't have starting up as a writer was the internet. I didn't know who reach out to. I just wrote. But You do now, you have support to read up on scripts of your favorite shows, sign up for master classes online. Learn what it takes to sell your idea.
As I said it is a mini thread. Above all else don't undermine your childhood story, your teenage years and your journey now. Most great writers draw from what they know and research the rest to populate the world they are placing their characters in.
If you've spotted some of my grammar mistakes in this mini thread, you are a script editor not a writer.
Now ask me what you want to ask. Please respond below this tweet as to be able to keep track. I'm going upstairs at 12h30.
