🧵THREAD🧵

You may remember, in the ancient days of 2018, the entire Dem-media industrial complex assured us that, if Brett Kavanaugh joined the Supreme Court, he would empower an imperial presidency.

Today’s news showed that to be a farce. I think some apologies are in order.
Let’s start with the electeds. There were some pretty bonkers claims made, but my personal favorite has to be from @RepMaxineWaters, never one to shy from a conspiracy theory that might hurt President Trump.

Any follow up here?
Of course, she wasn’t alone among the lower house. Here’s @RepAdamSchiff pushing the same conspiracy theory.
But the upper house was really the one who shined.

Here’s @SenSchumer assuring us that Trump was using Kavanaugh for protection.
A lot of senators ran with the suggestion of their majority leader and that the president was making the appointment to ensure he was “above the law.”

Here’s @ewarren.
@CoryBooker here to provide some gender parity.

I’m old enough to remember it being an attack on our institutions to suggest that they were rigged to benefit someone.
And @SenTinaSmith did the same.
From the Democrats mouth to the media’s ear. You’ll surely remember all of the virulent hypotheticals about the terrible things that could happen should Kavanaugh see the bench.

Here’s @NBCNews (spoiler, he didn’t).
How’d this one pan out, @CNBC?
You’ll all be as shocked and devastated as I am to hear that @maddow pushed this same conspiracy theory.
This from @NYMag hasn’t exactly come to pass now has it, @cristianafarias?

This is the same president who can’t even undo DACA, forget fire anyone he wants.
More of the same from @RollingStone’s @AndyKroll
@thenation’s @NicholsUprising went full black helicopters on this one.
And I suppose I’m not exactly going to wait for a retraction or an apology from @AmerIndependent, but you’ve gotta love the four-tweet split screen.
And of course the usual very smart voices chimed in.

It wouldn’t be a thread without an appearance from @JRubinBlogger.
Wondering if perhaps @davidfrum may want this one back.
I am told that, once upon a time, @tribelaw was taken seriously.
Remember @EvanMcMullin?
Also, remember @TomSteyer?
Also also remember former Democratic presidential front runner @MichaelAvenatti?
I’m running out of space and patience but some of the activist types really went full-blown moon-landing-in-the-basement on this one.

Here’s @RBReich, @JesseFFerguson and @djrothkopf.
Part 2 features @briebriejoy, @JohnFugelsang, @Mikel_Jollett and @DavidCornDC (who I guess isn’t technically an advocate).
Anyway. I’m not naive enough to expect an apology or retraction or shred of introspection from all of this.

But these people flagrantly attacked the credibility of one of America’s most sacred institutions to score political points.

Shame on them for doing so.
