I know I don't go into huge detail on what my son's exact diagnosis is, but the amount of "smooth brain" comments I'm seeing on a daily basis is really starting to get to me. Cason's diagnosis is Lissencephaly, which translates to "smooth brain".
He is an incredible, adorable, sweet little boy who deserves so much more than what he was given. Constantly seeing people in the communities I'm part of, influencers, and even devs using "smooth brain" as a way of calling someone an idiot is tearing me apart mentally.
I have grown accustomed to people using the word "retard". I know it's something that has been said forever and isn't something I should expect people to stop saying. But this? Smooth brain? This hurts more than anything else. I have been removing people on my timeline
who have used the phrase. Those close to me know how I feel about this and I can't expect everyone around me to know because I haven't publicly said anything. But now I can. If you continue to use this as some sort of insult, I'm removing you from my life.
My son's medical condition is not a joke. He was given a life expectancy of 5 years and last October he surpassed that expectancy. Stop normalizing this shit. It's not a joke. It's my son's life. It's my life.
