Because of the pandemic, video calls & meetings have become indispensable tools for work, school and socializing. For those named Alexa (& similar), however, it's yet *another* arena in their life where @Amazon's unethical name choice for @Alexa99 dehumanizes them. #AfterAlexa

Imagine trying to conduct business in a virtual meeting, only to have a robot interrupt you anytime someone addresses you by name - at best, it hampers communication, at worst, it's degrading and humiliating. @Amazon should never have used a real name for their AI. #AfterAlexa

This disruption in zoom sessions caused by names that trigger @Alexa99 is happening in online classes, too. And, like other problems now plaguing people named Alexa, it also affects those with similar names, like Alexis, and Alex. It's time for @Amazon to fix this. #AfterAlexa

The "solutions" to the problem of @Alexa99 having false wakes during virtual classes tend to be lousy, ranging from frantic screaming at the AI, to not saying the "problematic" name (or renaming the human who has it). Rarely are the devices muted or unplugged. @AfterAlexa
