I’ve been reading up on Fabricated Ahaadith lately & it was really eye-opening to learn that some well-known ahaadith are actually fabricated & baseless. Unfortunately, some of us are guilty of knowingly/unknowingly quoting these ahaadith under the impression that they’re Sahih.
I’m going to share a few fabricated ahaadith, particularly those I perceive as very popular, under this thread.
Note: These ahaadith are classed as fabricated because:
a) The hadith is devoid of an isnad
b) A known liar was found in the isnad
c) The hadith is baseless

• The Prophet SAW said to his Sahaba upon returning from a battle:
“We have returned from the lesser Jihad to the greater Jihad.”

He SAW said, “Yes, Jihad against the Nafs.”

She asked him how did he know that she was sick and he said because there was no trash at his door that day, so the woman was so touched that she accepted Islam.”

The hadith is second only to the Quran as a source of Islamic law. It is the hadith that explains the Qur’an. Therefore, the protection of the Qur’an necessitates protection of the Hadith from corruption.
Thus, quoting a hadith without confirming its source is really dangerous as some fabricated ahaadith could encourage dangerous bid’ah. Familiarizing ourselves with fabricated ahaadith would help us to avoid believing and spreading false traditions as part and parcel of Islam.
Intentionally quoting a fabricated hadith and presenting it as Sahih to others is prohibited for lying about the Prophet SAW is a grave sin. In this regard, the Prophet SAW said:
“He who tells a lie on me intentionally, let him take his seat in Jahannam.
[Sahih Bukhari, 106]
