This is such a complex issue and I honestly feel for the fans. There (or at least shouldn't be) anything wrong for the fans to love their favorites in wrestling or entertainment. In general this isn't about just wrestling, but society and idol worship of those they don't know- https://twitter.com/jamesie_2015/status/1281251144564686850
-in general. But I still can't blame the fans for this. I feel bad for them because the nature of humanity means these guys are probably gutless in hindsight or worse: flat out complicit & bad people. The ones who put them up on that pedestal are the ones who will get burned. -
I've seen it myself with ZSJ & somewhat Starr. Though most actual wrestlers knew Starr was at best a full of shit deceiver and loser. ZSJ being silent legitimately hurt people who were super into him and believed his lies. That's not their fault.
It's also important to note WRESTLERS ARE PRO LIARS. It doesn't make you stupid to buy into these guys, nor morally complicit into wrongdoing.
I would agree that for your OWN mental health you shouldn't let "personal lives" that are broadcast out to the world dictate your POV of someone too much. Because most people who have fame are inherently deceivers, but especially wrestlers. It's inevitable you'll get hurt.
OR be stubborn to the point of defending clearly bad people like Riddle who have done wrong and end up not only looking bad but then you DO become complicit by enabling abusers which is terrible.
On a personal level, I think all 3 of those guys Jamesie said are bad people by their actions we see in public and the fact that especially Brookes & ZSJ have profited off of liberal ideologies & their persona, letalone what we don't know. But I can't blame anyone for being fans.
But I think all wrestlers are messed up in some way because no completely normal, well adjusted person would wrestle for any major amount of time. Or at least a very small amount of people fit that description. I would know. How can I blame others for being less cynical than me?
Fans should love their favorites of wrestling, sports, and entertainment. I hate that the people who they love so much don't love them back & just end up using them. Because anyone who is a user & abuser and a liar & a con artist is a punk ass bitch, no matter how cool they seem.
I hope one day that that pedestal gets filled up with people who are good in their hearts and will NEVER let things be how they've been in wrestling has been in 2020 (or 2010, or 2000, or the 90, 80s, blahblahblah...) again. But I don't believe it's happened right now yet.
But then again, so many people in general. Fans or wrestlers or athletes or politician or anyone anywhere have done so many bad things...it's just a truly sad and bleak outlook to even think about. But this is well beyond just wrestling to me. I think it's important to remember.
