I missed today's provincial press conference because I was busy working on my AQ course. I was told that apparently @Sflecce now hates online learning?
A large part of why remote learning was a nightmare was because of Lecce.
It's disingenuous to act as if you're not involved.

I don't envy the job of politicians. Inevitably, some people are going to disagree. Some of those people will be angry even.
But I respect politicians who put a genuine effort for public good & own up to their actions. It's a sign of strong leadership.

Lecce was the one who touted out remote learning like he invented it. While teachers scrambled to make it work, Lecce tried to present our efforts as well as a stripped down version of TVO online learning as his efforts and his plans.
He also made our jobs more difficult.

He made it seem like he was providing additional funds for boards to buy tech to support remote learning. Tech demand doubled in my board alone, but there was no additional funds available.
We lacked firm directives so school boards had to fill the void.

Weeks into remote learning, Lecce comes out with demands for synchronous dynamic remote learning while emphasizing the need to create routine.
Ironically many of us were told NOT to do synchronous learning & his announcement disrupted the routines we established online.

When educators raised concerns about privacy and safety, Lecce dismissed them. But not before posting screenshots of a Zoom call with students complete with their full names and their school.
And now we have less than two months before the start of a new school year.

Instead of providing a clear plan for September, Lecce provided all of the possibilities. What other possibilities are there beyond online, hybrid, & face to face?
Now he's rotating between them every two weeks.
This is intentional chaos.

Many people didn't like remote learning yes. It was an emergency measure and educators had at most a 24 hour notice of the shutdown.
But don't act like this wasn't your baby too Lecce. Remote learning is so your baby, we might as well name it after you.

You're the education ministry! Who else should take responsibility for this if it's not you?
Being an education minister means actually leading. It's not the type of position that allows for you to swoop in for the credit and talk in circles when there are problems.

This is so frustrating. I'm glad I missed the press conference. It would have just infuriated me that we're well into July and there's no real plan for September.
As usual Lecce is just throwing ideas out & hoping it's the one he can brag about.
This isn't real leadership.
