When we say "the theory of the caste system is problematic", it does not means one is "denying discrimination" or even worse "supporting the caste system, apartheid" blah blah.
The phenomenon of a discrimination, does not equate to the validity of the theory of "caste system."

When one starts to explore an alternative theory though, one meets the slogan shouters.
The slogan shouters are stuck to one theory as "truth" and the "only explanation." So saying that the sun does not revolve around the earth is "blasphemy" when "it is obvious it does."

Unfortunately India's "social science" education produces slogan shouters not thinkers or investigators.
They do not wish to understand. They want to shout down and attack anyone who would propose an alternative. They're no different from the Church who'd persecute Galileo.

The theory of caste is problematic at even another level. Many times the phenomenon is not even experienced. It is based on fiction—"dalits are beaten if they try to enter any temple in India" or bad correlation "people put 'caste' in their last name so 'caste system' is real."
Balu's claim is that the "caste system" does not represent a phenomenon in the world but a European theory. This theory arises from European history and from how Europeans experienced India.

The first step to decolonize is to excavate our own experience and describe it as directly as possible without layering on theory.
When we are able to see and describe our experiences we'll see that the standard "explanation" of the "caste system" rapidly falls apart.
