#Altcoin trade category Thread: This thread will have some of the different types of trades and setups you can take right now. Each have different pros and cons to them. This list won't be comprehensive; there are several other types that won't be discussed.

$ALTS $BTC

1) The long accumulating dead coin trade $ADA $DOGE $XLM

-Usually seen in older coins (former altszn coins like $TRX)
-Have gone -90%+ from ATH
-Take a long time to trade.

Pros for this trade:
-V. high upside
-explosive moves when they move (can be several hundred %+).
-Lower risk due to how far they've fallen
-Low management needed, you buy and you set sell orders

Cons for this trade:
-Opportunity cost- you have to buy and hold for up to months on end
-Hard to get filled due to low volume and liquidity during the ranging consolidation
-Fakeouts are very frequent and confusing

2) Bullish af trending coins like $LINK $LEND

-Lower upside given the trend but also protected downside (generally). These coins won't nuke as badly.

-Generally easy to buy the dip and just go with the trend

-Nice liquidity due to these being high cap coins

Pros for this trade:
-Trend is your friend, easier to trade
-ATH lvls make price discovery potentially explosive
-These coins don't go down huge when $BTC has big volatile moments

Cons for this trade:
-Upside is sometimes limited, you generally won't see it pull a $DOGE and go up 50% in a day
-Sometimes hard to distinguish what dips to buy (environment dependent)
-These are generally very crowded trades

3) Retraces after big moves ( $ATOM)
-Formerly market leaders that are pulling back
-Retrace to .786 or .618 on HTF charts and either consolidate for a while or start reversing
-Require patience

Pros for this trade:
-Require much patience
-High upside targets with an asset that has positive price history
-Can be late to the trend but still have high upside
-Works great with fibs (my favorite)

Cons for this trade:
-Invalidation can be tricky, same with profit targets
-Can take a long time to get a good entry
-Only specific to certain kinds of coins (must have strong former moves)
-Sometimes hard to confirm move + lots of fakeouts or just bearish retests all over

4) #DeFi Coins ( $SNX)

Pros: Moon
Cons: None

Many more setups that you can take, there are medium ones that are still trending hard after accumulating in the spring and later pumpers ( the IEO coins), there are coins like $WAN that hasn't really moved yet relatively.

The bottom line is that I recommend you read more about trading setups and understanding what it is you are doing before trading with larger amounts of $. If you can't accurately even explain what your setup is, you're just gambling. Even basic S/R flips is something.
