**India is the land of diverse culture and ethnicity. it is known for wide varieties of martial arts that have developed since ancient times.

**it was used for warfare . British Govt. had banned Kalaripauattu and Silambam .

lets start
SILAMBAM:-

**Its a kind of staff fencing , is a modern and scientific martial art of Tamil Nadu

**Kings who ruled Tamil Nadu including Chola, Chera, Pandya had promoted it

**The reference is found in Silappadikaram (Tamil Literature) which dates back to 2 nd century BC
Thang-Ta and Sarit Sarak:-

** created by the Meitei people of Manipur, thang-ta is an armed martial art that finds its mention in the most lethal combat forms

** Sarit sarak on the other hand is an unarmed art form that uses hand to hand combat

** history goes back to 17th AD
Cheibi Gad-Ga:-

** one of the most ancient martial arts of Manipur, it involves fighting using a sword and a shied

**it has now been modified to a stick encased in soft leather in place of a sword and a leather shield
Pari-Khanda:-

**Its created by Rajputs, is a form of martial art in Bihar. it involves fighting with sword and shield

**its steps and techniques are widely used in Chhau dance.
** in fact martial arts forms the basis of chhau dance(pic-2)
Thoda:-

** originating in the state of Himachal pradesh, Thoda is a mixture of martial art , sports and culture.

** it takes place during Baisakhi(13th and 14th april) every year

**community prayers r done to invoke blessings of Goddesses Durga and Mashoo
Gatka:-

** Gatka is a weapon based martial art form, performed by the Shiks of Punjab.

** The name "Gatka" refers to the one whose freedom belongs to grace.

** Gatka features skillful use of weapons including stick, Kripan, Talwar, Kataar

** displayed in fair and festival
** This is traditional Maharashtrian armed martial art, practiced widely in Kolhapur

**it is known for use of unique Indian Pata( sword) and Vita(corded lance)
Lathi:-

** an ancient martial art form of country , Lathi also denotes one of the worlds oldest weapons used in martial arts.

** practiced widely in Punjab and Bengal.

** Indian police can be seen using Lathi
Inbun Wrestling:-

** its a native martial art of Mizoram, Inbun wrestling is belived to have its genesis in 1750 AD in Dungtlang village.
**its mainly practiced in Tamil Nadu, although its practiced in Sri Lanka and Malaysia

** it was first mentioned in Sangam literature(2nd century BC), kuttu varisai means empty hand combat.

Musti Yuddha:-

** its originated in one of the oldest city in world , Varanasi, Musti Yuddha is an unarmed martial art form resembling Boxing.

** There are 4 category of musti yuddha as
-- Jambuvanti
-- Hanumanti
-- Bhimaseni
-- Jarasandhi
(named after Hindu Gods)
Kalaripayattu:-

** it is one of the oldest martial art in world , originated in Kerala(India) in 4th century AD.

** Kalari is a malayalam word means school/gymnasium/training hall.

** Sage Parasurama who built temples and introduced martial arts , started kalaripayattu
Paika Akhada:-

** originated in Odisha . its an combination of dance and combat.

** it was earlier used by warriors and now practiced as a performing art

** Andhra pradesh-- were royal army of state

**india-- unarmed at uses locks and holds(no killing)

** 12th century in Maharashtra uses pole , rope

**originated in Mizoram. use round wooden rod

Kirip,Saldu:-(pic-3)
** originated in Nicobar- type of wrestling

**originated in Tamil Nadu- attacks at body's vital spots
