this is kinda why i regret that thread, the literal exact last thing i wanted out of that thread is for creators to read it and feel down on their work. i just wanted to talk about pbta design and why i think the ideas can be divorced from the mechanics, i didn't want any of this https://twitter.com/diwataMANILA/status/1281051926507819008
i regret saying that we've moved past the need for pbta. when i said that we don't need it anymore, i meant it in the way that we don't need GMs or playbooks or dice rolls - no game NEEDS anything, but having them fucking rules.
all i wanted to say is that separating the mechanical execution of PbtA from the ideological design behind PbtA is possible and should be done more going forwards. please stop beating yourselves up about making PbtA games, or feeling like I'm beating you up about PbtA games
my first non-D&D game was a pbta game, my favorite game is a pbta game, the first game i ever made was a pbta game, the reason i fell in love with ttrpgs was a pbta game, please i do not hate pbta and i especially do not want anyone to beat themselves up over their game
