“Don’t be fooled by the one who recites the Qur’ān. His recitation is but speech - but look to those who act according to it.”

- Umar Ibn al-Khattāb رضي الله عنه

[Al-Khateeb, Iqtida al-‘ilm al-‘amal]
This isn’t to devalue the Recitation of the Qur’ān but it is to point out the importance of valuing how the recitation adorns a person.
Nowadays anyone with a nice voice is called a Qāri’ yet this wasn’t the case at the time of the Prophet ﷺ and the Sahabah رضي الله عنهم

The Qurrā’ were known as those who beared the Qur’ān!
The problem lies in being ignorant of the fundamentals.

A reciter is glorified excessively due to the sweetness of their voice when they are making mistakes in Tajweed that can be identified by anyone who is well-learned in this field.
The Qur’ān has not been sent down for entertainment. Whether you’re a reciter or you’re a listener.

It’s time we stop demeaning the Knowledge of the Recitation of the Qur’ān and all of the other sciences of Qur’ān.

A person who values this knowledge will value this Book
And not make the Qur’ān attributed to a single reciter who has a sweet voice.

Everything goes back to the fundamentals.

May Allah guide us and protect us all
