Hot Take: In the elementary we are constantly losing instructional time for science and social studies. It's commonly suggested that we meet social standards during ELA time & science standards during math (ELA and math are sacred time because of standardized testing). 1/5
I always thought that if we have to cut those classes it made sense to combine them with ELA and math. I never argued against cutting those contents (though I felt it a shame we did). BUT a 1stđź‘Ź year đź‘ŹT đź‘Źchallenged me to argue against cutting those content's time. 2/5
She argued that combining ELA & social or math & science took away the importance of science & social/history. Considering how 2020 has gone & considering how people don't believe in/trust science or have no understanding of the darkness in our history & 3/5
don't believe we have a race problem in our country, I see that young T was 100% correct. We need to get rid of standardized testing. We need to make space to teach science and social studies/history in our schools again. 4/5
And we need to update science and social/history curriculum instead of ignoring it & only focusing on reading and math curriculum. 5/5
