Solution 1: End the IMD Exclusion that prevents Medicaid Federal Matching $ for any facility w >16 beds for people with “mental diseases.” Put Quality Controls in Place & Enforcement to ensure hospitals do more than medicate & warehouse people. 2/5
Solution 2: Create more First Episode Psychosis Programs to allow people to be educated about the brain disorder: both the patient and the families, so that more collaborative, supportive and compassionate care can be initiated. 3/5
Solution 3: For the very small percentage of people who have true Anosognosia, where the frontal & parietal lobes of the brain are affected so the person is unaware of their own illness, we need Assisted Outpatient Treatment & Mental Health Courts. 4/5
Solution 4: We need supportive community housing w collaboration with CCBHC’s (Certified Community Behavioral Health Centers) to provide wrap around care to help engage w the people w serious brain disorders to stay in treatment to help their brains to heal.
