Meanwhile, as the old straight dude is fumbling along as best he can, may I recommend some of my favorite recent reads by own-voices wlw authors? Because at the end of the day, these are the voices we need to be supporting for the best rep. I have tons of faves, but here are six:
Make it a thread, you say? Oh, right. Threads are a thing. Er. Sure. *Puts on glasses.* How do you work this contraption again?
1. A Memory Called Empire by
@ArkadyMartine

Stunning sci-fi debut. An ambassador from a small space station has to survive in the capital of a galactic empire where everyone seems to want her dead. Add in a great will-they-won’t-they wlw romantic interest. Awesome.
2. A Study in Honor by
@ClaireOdell99
. In a near-future U.S., in the middle of a new Civil War, a reimagined Holmes and Watson, both African American women, try to solve an insidious mystery in D.C. O’Dell is a Lambda winner for Best Lesbian Mystery. Love this premise.
3. Run, by @Kody_Keplinger The unlikely friendship between Agnes and Bo is tested when they have to go on the run from the cops and some ugly family secrets are revealed. Bi wlw rep. Legally blind rep. Page-turner plot w/alternate narrators. 🏅
4. The Stars are Legion by
@KameronHurley
.
Mind-blowing original sci fi adventure which has been called, in the best possible way, “the Death Metal of Sci-Fi” and also “lesbians in space.” So, so good.
5. Gideon the Ninth, by Tasmyn Muir. OMGs this book. The snarky humor, the world-building, the characters. Best blurb is right on the cover: “Lesbian necromancers explore a haunted gothic palace in space.” SUPREMELY great and original. (Sequel is coming soon.)
6. And last but definitely not least, The Priory of the Orange Tree by
@say_shannon
. Fantastic sapphic rep in a high fantasy world. My full review is here: https://goodreads.com/review/show/3151635615?book_show_action=false&from_review_page=1… What else would you guys recommend?
