There are a few, who get the idea of "having a mentor" all wrong.
While there are infinite articles/blogs/tweets on "Who is a good/great mentor" there are not as many that say "What a mentor isn't or cannot be". Thread.
1) Mentors are lighthouses. They guide. (not babysit).

2) Which means -- the nudges from a mentor will start feeling like "pushing" if there is no self-motivation in the first place.
3) Mentors aren't here to make many copies of their own self. Be self-aware and find your own passion first. (don't seek to become like the mentors)

4) Mentors are here to tell you the fundamental structure of "how to do things/how to create short-term goals."
It is important to understand that this means they can't create your list of things to do. Find your own style and believe in it.

5) Mentors show their vulnerable side. It is up to you to know what to do with this display--to feel motivated, feel secure about your own flaws, and emulate. OR, to judge. It is totally up to you.
Let it be known that mentors aren't flawless humans.

6) You can seek mentors' advice and guidance, but not solutions.
7) By nudging you out of your comfort zone, the mentor does what is inevitable -- you feel very uncomfortable, but at the same time motivated.

8) Two reminders:
a) The way to grow is to take more responsibilities. The best way to take more, is to take care of existing responsibilities efficiently, and create the space for "new".
b) Manage your time well, because you will get busier. NOT MESSIER.

9)
"With great power comes great responsibility."
Remember the movie Avatar and the "I SEE YOU!"?
The Na'vi is able to connect to the dragon-like predator Toruk? The toruk first tries to kill, even as the mind connection is attempted.
Well, mentorship is a lot like this.

10) Mentors neither arrive with a signboard nor can this be a self-proclaim,
WHY you choose a person to be a mentor is your choice.
"Are you willing to get uncomfortable?" you alone can find the answer.
Because, "That which does not kill us, makes us stronger."
