Okay I’d like to clarify something since it appears people aren’t quite understanding what I meant about micro identities and I guess I wasn’t properly clear in the original thread:
People who label themselves as identities like omnisexual and heteroflexible are completely valid!!! However, these identities can be extremely harmful to the bi community when they are used to explain away parts of bisexuality that already exist as a part of bisexuality,
like having a lean/preference or being attracted to more than just men and women. As long as you have proper knowledge that these things already exist as apart of bisexuality (and always have), then it’s okay to use these identities if that’s what feels right for you!
But if you are using them because you are under the wrong impression that bisexuality is exclusively attraction to the binary genders, or that you have to have an even split of attraction, that is where the identities contribute to biphobia and bi-erasure.
In the thread I should’ve said “can be harmful” rather than “are harmful,” and that’s my bad. You are still valid, just please make sure that you are educated on what bisexuality actually is before you use these identities in place of it. <3
