New post & thread: Census Bureau data shows that nearly 1 in 5 adults report that kids in their household are not getting enough to eat. This is shocking. https://www.cbpp.org/blog/boosting-snap-needed-to-reduce-hardship-long-term-effects-on-children /1
As reported based on forthcoming analysis from @laurenlbauer and @dwschanz, the figures are even more astounding for kids of color, with about 2/5 of Black and Hispanic households reporting kids not getting enough to eat. https://www.politico.com/news/2020/07/06/racial-disparities-families-struggle-food-348810 /2
Parents may have less income & are struggling to pay rent & other bills, leaving little money left for food, & food has gotten more expensive. Additional #SNAP benefits & P-EBT provided by the Families First Act have helped, but didn’t reach everyone & are temporary. /3
Imagine: a generation of kids may be scarred by this crisis. Kids who don't get enough to eat in childhood may face long-term, even lifelong, consequences in their health and well-being. Are policymakers paying attention? /4
We need to act now to make sure that today's crisis doesn't limit kids' opportunities further down the road. One key way to help is to raise #SNAP benefits. This gives families more money to spend on food, and fast. Kids can’t wait. /5
