How To Make Your First $1000 With Web Design

Even if you are a total newbie...

// A THREAD //
It's not easy but it definitely can be done.

I'm a living example.

I've started making websites at the very end of DEC19.

I've closed the first clients in JAN20!

From JAN20 to JUN20 I've averaged 1000$/month PROFIT.

You can definitely replicate it.

Let's look at HOW.
The process is simple, not easy.

I was lucky you may or may not be as well.

But THE LONGER YOU PERSIST THE LESS LUCK YOU NEED.

Keep this in mind from the very beginning to the very end of your web side-hustle journey.

Let's dive into the process of making it real.
The whole process can be cut into three main parts:

1. Learning the skill itself
2. Get credibility and confidence
3. Get the first real client

It seems a lot but you can go through all three in one month.

- In case you dedicate 1-2 hours every day.
LEARNING THE SKILL ITSELF

To start learning you will need to get a WordPress domain first.

- WordPress is the site-building interface that allows you to build the sites without coding.

Start a FREE domain e.g. on https://www.000webhost.com/
Once you have the domain go to settings and do those:

1. Get a Hello Elementor! theme (in Themes)
2. Get the Elementor plugin (in Plugins)

If you're lost write me a DM or use google.
Then go to youtube and play a video such as this one:

You can exactly mirror the guy and build the whole website from scratch with him.

WARNING! The purpose is to try the Elementor interface the YT websites are terrible from the UX perspective.
FIND YOUR FIRST TRY-IT CLIENT

You know people. Those people know people as well.

Tell your friends you doing websites.

Find a friend/ family member/ nonprofit company who needs a website.

Offer to do it for FREE.
I know you want the $$$ but being patient will be the multiplication of your future incomes.

✅You will have a reference
✅You will be much more confident
✅You can avoid your biggest mistakes with real clients

Sometimes you have to slow down to speed up.
Treat the whole thing seriously.

If you want to learn something valuable from the free project you need to be serious about it.

I mean VERY SERIOUS.

The more real-life-like the experience will be the more you can learn.
GET YOUR FIRST PAID CLIENT

Once you have your first free site (and reference) under your belt it's time to test the real world.

First, get yourself a domain.

Make sure it's clear you do websites from the name of it e.g. http://weboid.com  / http://mattwebdesign.com
Now, you know what to do.

Build your agency/ studio/ freelancer website.

Get Elementor ( and combine it with Hello Elementor! theme just as before)

✅Use the reference
✅Get inspiration on other web design-related websites
GET YOUR FIRST PAID CLIENT

The time has come.

I recommend approaching the clients by email.

For this purpose, you need an [email protected]

- don't use free email providers like @gmail or @yahoo it looks amateurish.

Use GSuite or one of the million free options.
Next, you will need to find people who may be in need of your service.

You would be surprised how many terrible websites are out there.

Just pick a NICHE (like coffees, restaurants, building companies...)

And google NICHE + CITY (preferably the city you live in)
If you need some niche inspiration get it here 👇

https://gum.co/YLlgO  (free product)

Then make a list of people with terrible websites.

If you live in the same city as the business is based it's a great advantage as you can go there in person.
Once you got the list of terrible sites lets the outreach begin.

Write a PERSONAL e-mail to EVERY website owner on your list.

Use his/her: NAME, SITE NAME, SPECIFIC ISSUES OF CURRENT WEB, COMPLIMENT.

Show you care and keep it super short.
🔑SECRET HACK🔑

Offer the customers they will pay you once the ALL site is done and they can see it.

I know. You take a big risk and it's much harder for you to work this way

BUT

You're completely unknown so your client takes a risk as well.
My closing rate with this approach was CRAZY.

I've closed about 50 % of people that responded to cold email.

Yes, it's not a good long term strategy, but at the beginning, it works like a charm.
Okay, that was it.
