Well I see a lot of people celebrating #JyotiBasu today on his birth anniversary as a person who brought economic well being to West Bengal.
In reality, the LF has collectively damaged a once most industrialised and prosperous State.
During Independence, WB contributed 24% to the total Industrial Output of the country. When LF came into power, this contribution went down to 11.6%. As Basu's tenure ended, the value had fallen to 4.6%.
Graph shows the declining contribution during his tenure
Not to forget that Basu's tenure saw a militant trade union movement.
The graph shows the number of mandays lost due to strikes and lockouts (numbers in million)
Sir here claims that WB had the highest per capita NSDP in 1990s. Well, a Comparitive analysis will show you that WB had been the richest state in India in 1960. By the end of the last millennium, the SDP (per capita) rank of the state declined to 9.
Looking at the economic ramifications of left rule worldwide, we should be a little relieved that they have been pushed to the margins of present day politics.
