Former labour leader Clement Attlee, who is often talked about as a great socialist leader within the party. The very opposite was the case, he was a staunch anti-communist and imperialist, who sought to defend British colonialism and its interests anyway he could:
> Attlee was a staunch supporter of the Truman Doctrine and his goverment played a key role in the establishment of NATO in 1949.
> One year after NATO was founded, Attlee sent British troops into the Korean War,alongside their US counterparts and waged a brutual war against the DPRK.

> More more than 20% of the population was killed & most of the states infrastructure being destroyed by relentless bombing
> Attlee’s support of US-NATO hegemony was not the only example of continued imperialism during his time as leader. He sought to defend Britain’s imperialist interests even further.
> Attlee’s government was responsible for the exploitation of Malayan natural resources (tin and rubber) which was responsible for the UKs economic recovery after the war.

> This led to a growing anti-imperialist and national sentiment growing among Malayans...
> ...who wanted the nation’s wealth to benefit them and not British Imperialism.

> This eventually led to armed insurrection against British imperialism and colonialism, which Attlee repressed in the most brutal way.
> One brutal way Attlee achieved this was through the use of Agent Orange, which was used to destroy food crops, this led to a forced starvation campaign against Malayans.
> Attlee also organised killings of Malayan civilians, the most notorious incident was the Batang Kali massacre which led to the slaughter of 24 villagers by British troops.
> In response to Iran nationalising their oil industry, Attlee sent warships to Iran as he saw this act as a direct threat to British imperlaism.

> Attlee oversaw the ethnic cleansing of 400,000 Palestinians.

> Attlee also oversaw the bloody partition of India
Also just remembered that my old university has its own statue of the staunch imperlaist and colonialist
