I am truly grateful for the maternity leave available to me as a Canadian but now that I’m a recipient I’m noticing flaws with the system. Why is parental leave administred through EI as a percent of employment income? 1/
Am I deserving of greater mat leave pay than a part time minimum wage earner just because my salary is higher? I feel a flat rate (such as with CERB) would make more sense. 2/
Also, 55% of your usual income is generally not very much money and yet there are increased expenses associated with adding another person to your family. Why don’t we value children and parents more? 3/3
