this is almost the same rant as everyone else made on the topic. the major issue is that they all seem to think the rly bad woke shit is due to ppl not exposing themselves enough to opposing views and issues, but rly it's the opposite imo, it's oversocialisation

i'm trying and failing to find this one comic on tumblr where it's like a person typing "i'm so fucking triggered by this fuck you" and meanwhile they're sipping coffee w/ a bored expression on their face. that's like the truth of most rly woke ppl
you don't get to be hyperwoke by never exposing yourself to the horrors of the world. you get to be hyperwoke by overloading yourself w/ them. it's the exact same shit as middle aged moms buying tabloids: you indulge yourself in luridity & your biases turn into defence mechanisms
one of the things Scott Alexander observed in "The Toxoplasma of Rage" before he deleted SSC (rip) was that the situation on tumblr wasn't "don't expose yourself to anything bad", it was "FOCUS ON EVERYTHING BAD HAPPENING IN THE WORLD CONSTANTLY OR YOU'RE A TERRIBLE PERSON"
*that's* why the teenage harassment brigades all have these vomit-inducing pastel colours in their customisation. very few ppl wear that kind of shit as expressions of who they truly are: that's *almost always* a mask
ppl surround themselves w/ cutesy, "safe"-feeling imagery to disguise the fact that they're obsessed w/ luridity and darkness. i can't blame them; i've done it too. but the point is that there's always a double life when you see someone obsessed w/ "goodness"
i do wanna emphasise however that when a person is monomaniacally obsessed w/ darkness, there is also v often an issue. all of the most horrible ppl i've met were either obsessed w/ "purity" and "goodness" or obsessed w/ "corruption" and "evil"
